I know when the franchise premiered, they HAVE to be in 8th grade, because they don't graduate until PRT. Did we ever get a definitive answer as to how old Zack, Kimberly, Billy, Trini, and Jason were when they became rangers? If I recall, Tommy is a little bit older than them as well...

9th grade, actually. They graduated at the very beginning of Turbo, so you can't include the Turbo season when counting the years.

They were most likely all in the same grade (in the same classes, after all) at the beginning, so 14-ish as of Day of the Dumpster. I know what you're thinking, but hey, maybe the guys were on steroids... a LOT of steroids. ;) Anyway, if you have to fit MMPR with the graduation in Shift Into Turbo, they had to be around 14 in DotD. Unless you are one to believe that all 3 MMPR seasons + Zeo all took place in only a 2-year time span or something. ;)

Their age, along with the two seamless transitions between seasons, lead me to believe that the Zordon era was not a 6 years span. I feel it was somewhere around 3.5 years.:)
If the show did start in 1993, and if the Zordon era was only 3.5 years, then Lost Galaxy's "in the near future" disclaimer would make sense, if it took place in 1999. But this is just one theroy.

I never really thought about how old they were, until I read something about someone on the internet posted they thought they were 14, or 15. I know when they were brand new shows, I used to think, "Well damn! They've been teens for long enough! How many times did y'all fail 9th grade!?" I think the most believable out of the original 5 at being under 18 was probably Kimberly, even up through parts of Season 3, she dressed in guys things at time, and I've never really pictured too many chicks over the age of 20 acting the way she did. Jason would've been believable if their age were 17 or 18, maybe Zack as well. Trini, she just seemed older than 18 because the way her character was. I never noticed how "old" David Yost looked until he got new glasses in season 2. He was believable in season 1, but from then on, NO WAY! Tommy, when he became the good Green Ranger, his character did act like a teen (forgetful, etc.) although he looked like he was 22. Once he became the leader, his character changed DRAMATICALLY! The three "newbies" is what I used to call them looked younger than the rest of the cast when they came in as replacements. Kat, looked like she was in her 20's.

It was a 90's thing, watch other 90's High School shows. But like I said in my older post I think that the MMPR rangers never had an age untill they graduated. They never once said their ages, plus Trini was driving in season 1. The creators intended them to be, I think, around 16 or 17 in season 1. The whole "1 year 1 season" theroy is flawled because of the thinking in the Zordon era. It truly was an era, it was before Saban thought about why they would be in high school so long. MMPR was a time when Saban was just trying to keep up popularity, and feared change. So like I said, I feel they were at least 16 years old.

IMO, when fans speak of the xx years Zordon era, they're referring to the air time of the shows. I never saw the changes between seasons as a progression of a year. Far as I'm concerned, the entire three seasons in the show's universe took place within one year, or one and a half at most. There is no guarantee that a year passed after that from Zeo to Turbo as well.
And I think the show's producers aren't all that blind. They weren't supposed to be 14 or 15 because they obviously were too old for that. I wouldn't even know they were teens unless told. I'm guessing it was somewhere around 17 or 18, like Ryan said.
