View Full Version : Unmorphed ranger uniforms - Good or bad?

So lately we've been seeing a lot of these. I'm speaking of the uniforms we mostly see the ranger characters wearing when not morphed. Does it seem kind of monotonous or do you like seeing the same uniforms over and over again?
Personally, while it doesn't directly affect the show, it does make it quite boring. Just by watching Dino Thunder, I noticed the thing that seemed so fresh about it was they were barely wearing the same clothes over and over, so we got to see their own personal choice of clothing. Also, we see uniforms in seasons where they aren't even required (Mystic Force, Jungle Fury).
Discuss away.

I'm fine with uniforms but I feel they should only be use when it makes in the season/ Lightspeed's made sense, Ninja Storm's made sense, Mystic Force's as you said, didn't make any sense and neither did Jungle Fury's. Nowadays any scene that has the rangers in normal clothing is a breath a fresh air.
Well, I think they work as a continuity solution. If the character is often wearing the same clothes, then it's easy to splice in different shots etc that may have been filmed for a different episode, and also because of the morphing sequences, if a character is almost always wearing their uniform when they morph, it looks better because then they're not inexplicably wearing different clothing. I hate it when they do that... I'd prefer them to just not show the morph sequence and do a quick morph or some other creative solution.
Also the uniforms in general are pretty cool, I loved the SPD uniforms and the Jungle Fury ones are great. However is anyone else alarmed by how flat Lily's stomach is when she is wearing her day to day clothing?
I don't care so much for the uniforms, simply because it's far too difficult to create something that looks like it belongs on a group of people.
I absolutely hated Overdrive's jumpsuit.. It didn't go with any of them, they all looked horrible in the jumpsuits.
Tyzonn should've kept his Mercurian clothing, that jumpsuit took away what little neck he had left.
*Sigh*
Jungle Fury tried hard to copy GekiRanger's idea of a martial arts school uniform that reflected their ranger colors. But.. Then they had the idea "Oh yeah they should work at a pizza shop! and wear clashing Christmas colors! Yes! That's brilliant!"
*Sigh*
I feel bad for the actors..
If you're going to give them uniforms that reflect their martial arts teachings, keep them in those clothes ALL the time. GekiRanger did that save for a couple episodes, I think. Further more, they didn't pull double time on activities. I don't approve of rangers having jobs, it makes it seem like they're bottomless vats of energy.
Further more, they change from JKP's uniform to the JF uniform in under a nano second before vine swinging through an air duct..
At least with Mystic Force the characters looked good in their uniforms, although they didn't make sense, it still looked cool.
SPD's uniforms made sense and looked good, don't approve of jump suits, never EVERRRRR use a jump suit with rangers.
Even Go-Onger has a two piece racing uniform. I can't wait to see how that gets handled.
But..Back to the topic at hand..
No.. I personally do not approve of uniforms to begin with because these days they look terrible..
If the uniforms make sense, eg. SPD, then YES! If they don't, eg. Operation Overdrive, then NO

Im fine with uniforms when they make sense for the team to wear them. Other than that I just prefer to have them in every day clothing.
On a brief sidenote: do people like the rangers having to wear their color constantly? Or would you rather they not be tied down to one color and be able to wear multiple colors. And sometimes not wear their own color at all?
Primal Slayer, thank you for bringing that up. I don't approve of the colors being forced into their wardrobe. I think Tommy was the first, and the last to ever mention that it isn't a psychological thing to wear red, yellow, blue, etc all the time..
"I'm going to have to add black to my wardrobe.."
That really stuck to out to me, that they constantly kept wearing it, and it isn't a psychological thing.
I have to wonder if they were the red ranger, and wore blue, if they would get confused, morph into the red ranger, and announce themselves as the blue ranger.. As if your t-shirt determines you mental ability..

Depends on the season, if the Rangers have to look professional then I don't mind uniforms. If the Rangers are just casual and don't wear uniforms thats fine too

I don't mind uniforms. Uniforms can be used AS LONG as it makes sense and it fits with the season's theme.

The only uniforms that made sense were Lightspeed, SPD, and the ones from Time Force.
I feel that when the rangers have differeent outfits, it add a sense of realism that uniforms don't.
As much as I don't like them, if it was a choice between them and only one outfit, I would take them.
About the color thing, MMPR pulled it off the best because they did not have to have their color be the main color in their outfits. I hated that Tommy brought it up durring Dino Thunder. I find it funny that Power Rangers was the only Saban show that had the color rule.

They do if Disney does not give out more money. Uniforms are a way around buying outfits, so they only need one or two.
They're good, and they should be used unless the season doesn't demand it (like, for example, MMPR - Turbo).

I don't care...but if you use 'em, don't make everything black mostly for god's sake. I actually thought WF's jackets look better than Gaoranger. Boukenger's Khaki-trimmed-with-color jackets look way cooler than OO. I applaud DT for changing to no uniform. JF's look so cheap compared to Geki's(Ran's legs!!lol) smoothed, dual textured blazer not laced with that awful black trim
I prefer the rangers to wear a variety of casual street clothes that aren't tied down colorwise to their powers.

I agree there. Besides, they don't make any sense in seasons like MF or JF, where they're not even supposed to wear uniforms in public. The way I see it, if you're not wearing them in public and don't intend to be seen, isn't it just a waste of time changing into the uniform just so you can change into your ranger suit barely a minute later?

Like I said, its all about saving money. The last few seasons, have only had 3 outfits for the rangers.
This is one of the many things that depends on the season for me. Some seasons uniforms are good. Like SPD for example. They're cops and cops wear uniforms so of course they would wear them. But for a season like Wild force where they had there jackets; it doesn't seem to fit the season to me. Not only that but they were suppose to have secret identities and yet they wore that out in public.
I know some in this thread have said the uniforms don't make sense in JF but I think they kinda do. They're apart of a kung fu academy and a lot of the times we've seen them they were training. I mean, do you want them training in jeans and a t-shirt? Would there masters have even taken them seriously if they showed up to train in some abercrombie and fitch shit? JF is a season that definitely needs uniforms.

Yea, but to go around in kung fu outfits doesn't make sense, it is suposed to be a secret school. Plus why you have to change from one uniform to another doesn't make sense. They were good for the first episode, and when they are training. But for every single episode, plus when they are out in public, before they morph, when it is suposed to be a secret, doesn't make sense.

I see the use of uniform in JF, but they are still very awful compared to this quality: http://cgi.ebay.com/Power-Rangers-Gekiranger-Gekired-Jaket-Bandai-New_W0QQitemZ250191093971QQihZ015QQcategoryZ52762Q QtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting
smh, people always have to bring up sentai

I agree it doesn't make sense to wear them in public but I don't agree that it was good for just the first episode. They've been training throughout the season. With Rj, with the masters, and when Dominic got there they were training. I think JF overall has a good balance. We see them in regular clothes, there JF uniforms, and there work uniforms.
